What is affiliate marketing?
How it works
- Using our affiliate provider AWIN, the OS partner creates a custom link to OS Shop (homepage or specific products) or to a route on OS Maps
- OS affiliate partner shares the custom link with customers, e.g. via website, e-newsletter or social media channels
- Customer follows the link provided by the affiliate partner. The link is tagged with a unique ID which attributes the referral to the partner
- Customer makes a purchase on the OS Shop within the tracked session
- Purchase is tracked and validated after 14 days
- Affiliate gets paid commission on the sale.

We work with AWIN to manage our Affiliate Program.
To become an OS affiliate partner your organisation will need to sign up with AWIN as a publisher.
Once signed up you can apply to be accepted onto any programme (not just Ordnance Survey). Once accepted, you will have access to a choice of promotional text and creatives that can be used across a variety of platforms such as email, social and websites.

You will be assigned a unique Publisher ID upon joining the network, which is used to track the sales for each program advertised on the affiliate marketing network. Your organisation ('the publisher') then places the affiliate links across promotional material; when potential customers click on the link, they are then taken to our (or the relevant advertiser's) website to complete their purchase. The ID is tracked by AWIN so that the sale can be attributed to the publisher. The publishers and advertisers can access their dashboard at any time and review all aspects of the program within the affiliate marketing network's platform.
There is no set up fee or contract.
